5 years later, Mary Poppins began her rule as everyone’s favorite movie nanny

and Saturday is “S’mores Day”.

That alone makes August bearable.

The 57th annual East Coast Surf Contest begins on Sunday. In addition to the thrill of the surfing competition, there’s music and volleyball and lots of good vibes. A good day at the beach.

Looking for someone to love?

Plan to attend the opening reception for In Plein Sight at The Virginia Beach Art Center on Saturday, August 17th  from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm.  Virginia Beach area artists including our very own Karen Laurie Thomas will each have paintings on display. In addition to the exhibition, artists will be painting outdoors “ en plein air” Saturday morning and exhibiting their creations along with the rest of the artworks in the exhibition. Should be a terrific way to spend the evening.

August isn’t known for much.

No Fireworks
No National Holidays
No 3 Day Weekends
but some interesting things happened in August.
